Being a part of the Executive Committee is not only a great opportunity for leadership development, but it is also a chance to have some insight into the inner workings of both a musical ensemble like the Singers and an administrative body like Hart House. Hart House's groups are funded entirely by your student and senior member fees, so we need you to tell us what services you'd like to see provided by the groups in which you participate! By being on the Executive Committee you can help to decide what the Singers will do during the school year - concert repertoire, special musical guests, workshops, library maintenance, membership, social outings - all of these aspects are discussed at our executive committee meetings and are organized by the dedicated members of the Singers' Executive Committee. The Committee meets approximately every three weeks (Mondays from 6 PM - 7 PM - before rehearsal) or once every month.
There are several ways to get involved! The responsibilities of the various positions that are available on the committee are listed below:
Executive Secretary: This is the chief executive officer of the Singers Committee, and must have either: served previously as a voting member of the Committee for at least one (1) year, or served as Secretary or Coordinator of another Hart House musical club or committee for one (1) year. The Executive Secretary must be a current University of Toronto student. The primary function of the Executive Secretary is to ensure that the Singers fulfills its mission and that the Committee works as a unit to achieve this goal. The Executive Secretary organizes meetings, keeps minutes and acts as a liaison with the Program Advisor, Conductor and Committee. Customarily, TWO Executive Secretaries sit on the Committee.
Treasurer: keep records of current Singers' budget accounts, and communicate such information to relevant Committee members; keep track of any and all budget requests approved by the Committee; prepare and present the following year's budget; take special requests to the House Committee on Budgets.
Librarian: manage the Singers' music (ie. buying, numbering, distributing, collecting, organizing). There have been TWO to THREE Librarians in the past.
Membership Manager: keep accurate records of Singers membership and attendance over the academic year. There have been TWO Membership Managers in the past.
Concert Manager: oversee all aspects of our yearly Fall and Spring concerts - posters/publicity, arranging recording and CD distribution, receptions, programs, flowers and gifts.
Publicity Manager: oversee all aspects of publicity for the Singers, including designing registration/concert posters, email advertisements; managing and responding to Singers' emails. In the past, the Publicity Manager has assisted the Concert Manager in their various tasks.
Social Director: promote a positive, social atmosphere among members of the Singers by organizing creative and fun social events, such as concert outings, movie nights, icebreakers, etc.
Webmaster: maintain the Singers' website; update it with concert information, MIDI song files, photos, etc.
Member At Large: if you are interested in sitting on the Executive, but are not able to commit to any of the above responsibilities, you can still sit on the committee and have input as a Member at Large.
